72 per cent of Indians have more snacks when they are happy: Report

People who love to eat are always the best people. Thus spake Julia Child, the well-known American cooking teacher, author, and television personality. Well, they may not only be the best, but also extremely happy. Food, is a major mood-booster, particularly snacks.

Now, everyone loves snacks, be they fritters, chicken nuggets or even a samosa. You find this in restaurants, roadside cafeterias and even food courts of shopping malls here. Snacking crosses international boundaries, such is its appeal.

However, a new revelation states that 72 per cent of Indians said they had more snacks when they were happy. This only goes to show that snacking is a mood uplifter.

This what the 'STTEM - Safety, Technology, Taste, Ease & Mood Uplifter' - The India Snacking Report (Volume I) by Godrej Yummiez, reveals. Yummiez is a range of ready-to-cook vegetarian and non- vegetarian products from Godrej Tyson Foods Ltd. Seventy per cent of Indians feel satisfied, happy, and excited after consuming snacks, according to Indo-Asian News Service.

The report calls for happiness to be given greater priority, ahead of International Day of Happiness, celebrated annually on March 20.

Eastern India turned out to be the leader in this regard with 75 per cent of its citizens snacking more when they are happy. Delhi was at the summit of the list at 81 per cent, followed by Chennai and Hyderabad at 77 per cent each, and Kolkata at 75 per cent.

The average for Mumbai stood at 68 per cent, while Pune and Bengaluru stood at 66 per cent each.

The snacking habit has nothing to do with gender as both men and women indulge in it; 74 per cent women and 70 per cent men snack more when they are happy, the report adds.
