Dubai Women Establishment (DWE) will virtually host its second ‘DWEbinar’ on Dec.10 at 1:00pm, under the title “Women & Food Security: The key to a sustainable future.”
The webinar will feature Mariam Bint Mohammed Saeed Hareb Almheiri, UAE Minister of State for Food and Water Security; Abdel Mageed Yahia, World Food Programme Director to the UAE & Representative to the GCC Region; and Simone Filippini, President of Leadership4SDGs Foundation, and Lubna Bouza, Editor in Chief of Business Sky News Arabia, who will moderate the session.
Featured speakers will address the importance of adopting a women-specific lens when approaching food security and sustainability in policy and decision making, as the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need for innovative approaches to facilitate women’s access to healthy food through supply chain continuity both locally and globally.
Speakers will also discuss how national strategies can incorporate a women-specific approach in times of uncertainty to food and water security and long-term sustainability.
Shamsa Saleh, CEO of Dubai Women Establishment, stated that this initiative reflects the efforts of Sheikha Manal Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE Gender Balance Council, President of Dubai Women Establishment, and wife of Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, in supporting women and furthering their active participation in sustainable development of societies at large.
It was highlighted that the outcomes of this session will enrich the research conducted by DWE, adding that the ‘DWEbinar’ is in line with DWE’s strategic objectives, the most prominent of which are increasing the participation and representation of Emirati women in economic, social, and political spheres and fostering their role in leadership through knowledge exchange.
