The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (Adafsa) issued an administrative order to shut down the “Burger Al Arab” restaurant and cafeteria facility in Abu Dhabi due to offending the Law No. (2) of 2008 on food in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The violations committed by the facility were found posing danger to public health, ADAFSA confirmed.
It stated that the closure decision came after several food poisoning cases had been reported by a number of customers who ate grilled chicken meals contaminated with salmonella bacteria from that restaurant.
The poisoning was because of its failure to comply with the correct practices in the storage, handling and preparation of food.
The administrative closure order will remain effective until the violations are corrected, and that the restaurant meets the necessary food safety requirements to ensure the food safety, ADAFSA added.
The closure decisions issued by the Authority and detection of such violations translate the inspection efforts aimed at reinforcing the food safety in the emirate.
It further affirmed that all establishments of different nature and food products are subject to periodic inspection by the authority’s inspectors to ensure their compliance with the necessary food safety requirements.
ADAFSA urged the public to report any violations at food establishments or in the event of doubting about the contents of food products to the Abu Dhabi government toll-free number 800555 so as to the inspectors take the necessary action to ensure food safety for all members of society in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
