Dubai Civil Court obliged an Arab national to pay Dhs120,000 in compensation to another due to the material and moral damages the latter incurred as a result of seizing his money by fraud.

The details of the case date back to June 2021 when the appellee impersonated an employee of companies investing in gold and oil and promised the plaintiff major financial returns in return for investing Dhs99,529, which he seized and fled the country, so the victim reported the incident to Al Muraqqabat Police Station.

The police arrested the suspect, who was referred to the Public Prosecution and then to the Misdemeanour Court in Dubai, that sentenced him to one month in jail, to be followed by deportation from the country after serving the sentence, and a fine equal to the amount embezzled.

Dr Alaa Nasr, the legal representative of the plaintiff, stated that the mistake made by the appellee caused the plaintiff material damage as he was unable to benefit from his money, in addition to the moral and psychological harm he incurred.

Dr Nasr added that the court, based on the case files, found that the appellee had been convicted in a final criminal ruling for embezzling Dhs99,529 from the plaintiff through fraudulent means.

Consequently, the court obliged the appellee to pay compensation for material and moral damages of Dhs120,000, with a 5% interest from the date of the ruling.
