Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) shut down seven restaurants and food facilities in Abu Dhabi during the first quarter of this year for violating Law no.2 for 2008 regarding food in the emirate and their danger to public health.
The closure came as part of ADAFSA’s ongoing keenness on strengthening the food safety system.
Last March saw ADAFSA’s food safety inspectors intensifying their efforts to monitor restaurants and food facilities across the emirate.
These efforts resulted in the administrative closure of four food facilities including three ones during its annual campaign to monitor and raise awareness among food facilities during the holy month of Ramadan.
The facilities shut down included a restaurant and a café, both on Hamdan Street, a supermarket in Al Khalidiya area, a supermarket in Musaffah Industrial Area, a poultry farm in Al Ajban area, a commercial facility in Al Shahama area and a grocery store in Musaffah area 9 in Abu Dhabi.
The ADAFSA affirmed that annual awareness and inspection campaigns on facilities were ongoing before, during and after Ramadan, noting that the objective of inspection campaigns was to ensure that facilities abide by food safety standards.
It reiterated its commitment to educating those who deal with these establishments about best practices to ensure the safety of food supplies provided to consumers.
Through its social media pages, the ADAFSA urged the public to rest assured that all available food products were inspected and monitored regularly and continuously through inspection campaigns of restaurants, central kitchens, cafes and other food facilities.
It also called on the public to communicate with it and report any violations in any food facility by calling the Abu Dhabi Government’s toll-free number 800555, enabling its inspectors to take the necessary action for safe food for all members of society in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
