Chicago Police officer dead, another wounded in shooting

Two Chicago police officers were shot on Saturday night on the city's South Side, officials said.

Officials said, one officer died and another was wounded following a shooting.

The shooting occurred about 9:10pm in the 6300-block of South Bell Avenue, and it left the officers in serious-to-critical condition.

The officers were taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in "serious-to-critical” condition, news outlets reported, according to the police department.

One of the officers — a woman — later died, Chicago Fire Department spokesperson Larry Langford told the Chicago Tribune. Other local news outlets also reported the death.

Two suspects were taken into custody, according to police communications from the scene. One suspect had been shot and was taken to a hospital, police said from the scene.
